Gallo Notes: Who Does the MHA Represent?

Medicaid and the Un-Special Session:
I’m watching the Senate debate whether it is germane or not to the Point of Order in adding the tobacco tax to it to Gov. Barbour’s call. Speaker after speaker is stating that their local hospital directors are saying they will go broke if SB 2013 if approved. Wait a minute, didn’t the MHA (the Mississippi Hospital Association) APPROVE the bill? Aren’t “hospitals” members of the MS Hospital Association?

Can you tell me any other association where most of its members are opposed to the action of the association they belong? Is there a law that says you have to join and pay dues to an association that will eventually lead to your ultimate demise?

I Got Gas and It Hurts:
Update from Georgia U.S. Representative Lynn Westmoreland on the growing list of Congressmen and women who have signed the pledge to Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less. The update shows that MISSISSIPPI REPRESENTATIVE GENE TAYLOR HAS REFUSED TO SIGN ON TO THE PLEDGE. Thanks to “Tinsel Town” Taylor for considering his beach view donors more than everyone else in his district who need a break.
