In retaliation, professional journalists start filing legal pleadings…

Announcing at the post-filing press conference, “I believe it was a great general who said ‘The best defense is a good offense,’” Ms. Knispel handed out copies of her pro se motion to the group of bloggers, reporters, and passers-by. Court-watchers were astonished when her motion was granted virtually by return email, not even sitting on the docket a half day.

Oxford attorney Tom Freeland expressed surprise to this reporter. “My motions sometimes take weeks to get sustained,” he said.

Reporter Alyssa Schnugg was barely scooped by Knispel; her paper, the Oxford Eagle, filed its motion a few hours later. It is still pending.
