USM freshman aims to start at quarterback

Many true freshmen are hesitant to express their true desire to get in the starting lineup right away once they first arrive on campus.
But quarterback Bret Jefcoat doesn’t shy away from discussing his ambitions for his first season at Southern Miss.
“I want to start as a freshman,” Jefcoat said. “That’s my main goal and I’m going to work hard to get that.”
The former Itawamba AHS star has been on the Southern Miss campus since the beginning of summer courses and is taking part in voluntary workouts, along with two other true freshmen from coach Larry Fedora’s first signing class – defensive lineman Terrance Pope and running back Desmond Johnson.
