James joins Auburn class

AUBURN — Intrigued by Auburn’s new offense, Williamson receiver LaVoyd James told coaches that he was ready to join the Tigers’ 2009 signing class.
James becomes the 15th player in the class and the fifth with ties to the Mobile area.

A speedy 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver, James evidently impressed new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin in this weekend’s camps.
“They pulled me aside and offered me a scholarship,” James told the Press-Register.
James called Auburn assistant coach and Mobile recruiter James Willis on Monday night to give him his commitment.
James also had offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss, but he said Auburn’s offense and close ties to Mobile made it an easy decision to pick the Tigers.
Auburn junior defensive end Antonio Coleman is a Williamson grad. His nephew, Terrence, committed to the Tigers in February.
“I really like the spread offense they run,” James said. “I know Antonio Coleman, and I’ll be around people I know. I’ve always liked Auburn. I was just waiting for an offer.”
