Leaving Notre Dame was inevitable for neutered White
Kevin White has presided over some stunning departures from Notre Dame since he was named the school’s athletic director in 2000: Former basketball coach Matt Doherty and football coaches George O’Leary and Tyrone Willingham come to mind.
So it seems fitting that White’s own departure, announced Saturday, would carry a measure of shock and mystery.
In a hastily arranged news conference on the campus of Duke University, White was introduced Saturday afternoon as the school’s new athletic director. He replaces Joe Alleva, who left for LSU in April.
“We were inspired by the university leadership here more than anything else,” White said in a phone interview.
