U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker today reacted to Hinds County receiving a major disaster declaration as a result of the April 4 storms that severely damaged the area:
Sen. Cochran said: “I am glad the President has accepted the appeal of Governor Barbour and recognized the level of damage that occurred in Central Mississippi as a result of tornadoes and severe storms in early April. This declaration will enable the state to receive the assistance it needs to aid in recovery from the storms.”
Senator Wicker added: “This decision is a welcome relief for those in Hinds County that experienced the brunt of the April 4 storms. FEMA was correct to reconsider this request, which will now pave the way for a quicker recovery. I appreciate the efforts of the state and local officials whose cooperation and hard work helped make this declaration possible.”
