Governor Barbour Expands The Call For Special Session

GOVERNOR BARBOUR PUTS EIGHT ITEMS ON ‘CALL’Today, Governor Barbour announced the following items are also on the call:

• Require voters to show identification at the polls;
• Make technical clarifying amendments to a recently-enacted immigration law;
• Authorize and appropriate funds for a judicial pay raise of 15 percent for judges and 10 percent for district attorneys and assistant district attorneys;
• Give Coast utility authorities, created after Hurricane Katrina, immediate possession powers in order to accelerate rights-of-way acquisitions needed for utility improvements to aid Gulf Coast rebuilding.

Since the Legislature will be in a special session working on mandatory items Governor Barbour said it is possible additional items could be added to the call.
