Candidates get cash from potential colleagues

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 6, 2008

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 5/5/8

Democrat Travis Childers and Republican Greg Davis are trying to get to Congress as the 1st District’s representative.

Their future colleagues are trying to help them, according to reports from the Federal Election Commission.

Since April 2, Childers has received $106,000 contributions from 24 congressmen’s campaign committees or leadership committees, and $18,000 from six Democratic political organizations.

Davis’ report shows some $42,500 contributions from 13 congressmen’s committees, and $28,000 from six Republican political groups, including those affiliated with Gov. Haley Barbour and former Sen. Trent Lott.

First Congressional District voters may be running on empty after three elections in the past six weeks, but the runoff candidates still must finance their campaigns, chiefly with the help of political action committees.
