Charges could change in killing of baby geese

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 2, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 5/2/8

Different charges could be coming against a former state senator who allegedly killed young geese last week in a gas barbecue grill at his home on the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Mike Gunn, who represented Rankin County in the state Legislature through most of the 1990s, could face federal prosecution on claims that he killed seven goslings in his backyard last Friday.

Steve Adcock, chief of law enforcement for the state Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, said initial charges of hunting out of season could change.

“Usually, that’s more of a charge people get when they are in possession of game out of season,” he said. “We’re trying to get all of the facts, and then we will adjust the charges to whatever is most appropriate.”
