Gov. Haley Barbour has appointed a panel to advise Medicaid about changes in payments made by hospitals to the program.
Barbour issued a statement about the panel’s creation Thursday.
The move comes as Barbour is preparing to call a special session for lawmakers to approve a spending plan for Medicaid for the fiscal year that begins July 1. A proposal for an assessment on hospitals to help cover part of the health care program’s budget was scrapped during the regular session. Barbour supports levying an assessment.
