Democrats in the 4th Congressional district meet for their quadrennial convention Saturday to choose members for the state executive committee and delegates to the national convention.
The event begins at 10 a.m. at the M.P. Bush Fine Arts Building auditorium on the Jones County Junior College campus in Ellisville. Nearly 300 delegates and alternate delegates from 15 counties are expected to attend and should arrive by 9 a.m. with their credentials; the public also is invited to attend and will have reserved seating.
Attorney General Jim Hood will be the keynote speaker. Among other local and state Democrats expected to attend: Wayne Dowdy, chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party; Rep. Dirk Dedeaux, the convention parliamentarian; Larry Coleman, chair of the Jones County Democratic Party Executive Committee; former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, a U.S. Senate candidate; and former state Rep. Erik Fleming, a U.S. Senate candidate.
