Saints deal for Pressley

Saints deal for Pressley
METAIRIE, La. –New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis figured the team wouldn’t have enough “stuff” to make a drastic move during Day 2 of the NFL draft. Yet the Saints found a way to wheel and deal enough to keep Sunday exciting.

The Saints didn’t jump into the third or fourth round, but they did move up two spots in a trade with Detroit to draft North Carolina State defensive tackle DeMario Pressley with the first of their two fifth-round picks, the No. 144 overall pick.

New Orleans handed Detroit its fifth-round selection (No. 146 overall) and its seventh-round pick (No. 218) to jump up two spots to take Pressley.

Nebraska tackle Carl Nicks then went to the Saints with their second fifth-round pick at No. 164. Thought of as a possible first-day pick, Nicks said several character issues “murdered” his draft stock.
