A Louisiana company is on the payroll for debris removal, but the agreement didn’t come without controversy between Jackson’s mayor and the City Council.
Nungesser Industries LCC of Pearl River had been picking up the debris in north Jackson left by the April 4 tornadoes with only the approval of Mayor Frank Melton – and not yet with the company overseeing debris removal.
On Friday afternoon, the company signed on to subcontract with Socrates Garrett, owner of Jackson-based Garrett Enterprises Inc., the company contracted by the city for debris removal.
“Everyone is now working under contract,” city spokeswoman Goldia Revies said late Friday.
