The wife of imprisoned ex-WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers has filed for divorce.
Kristie Ebbers’ divorce petition asks that she be granted a divorce because her husband is in prison. She cites “irreconcilable differences” as alternate grounds for divorce.
The couple married March 26,1999. Ebbers was convicted of fraud and conspiracy in March 2005 for his role in the accounting scandal that led to WorldCom’s demise.
The petition for divorce, filed last week, says the couple separated on or about Sept. 26, 2006 – the day Bernie Ebbers began serving his sentence in the Federal Correctional Institution in Oakdale, La.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Web site lists July 4, 2028, as the 66-year-old Ebbers’ projected re-lease date.
