Special election Q&A

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 14, 2008

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 4/14/8

On April 22, voters in the 1st Congressional District will select a congressman to complete the term of Roger Wicker, who in December was appointed to the U.S. Senate.

The special election will be nonpartisan, meaning all candidates will be on the same ballot and voters can select the candidate of their choice, regardless of party affiliation.

The four active candidates are Travis Childers, a Democrat and Prentiss County chancery clerk; Greg Davis, the Republican mayor of Southaven; Wally Pang, a businessman from Batesville who is running as an indepedent; and Green Party candidate John Wages Jr. of Tupelo.

All four also plan to run in the Nov. 4 general election for the full term in the U.S. House.

Here are their responses to the Daily Journal’s questions about their backgrounds, philosophies and views on the issues.
