Hood appears to be a losing streak.(sic) Hood is in a different situation than his predecessor.
As Mississippi’s only Democratic statewide elected official now, Hood has to be a master of nonpartisan politics in an atmosphere that’s growing increasingly partisan and hostile. During most of Moore’s time in office, there were other Democrats holding statewide positions, including state Treasurer Marshall Bennett and Secretary of State Dick Molpus, and Molpus’ successor Eric Clark.
Moore’s political instincts also won him great favor in the Legislature. When legislators got stuck — or crossways — on some issue they would call on Moore to referee. Moore was more than willing to help.
That need for Moore-riding-to-the-rescue transcended any perceived power of the governor.
There has been no calling on Hood to ride to the rescue.
