Judge allows crematory to open again with oversight

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 10, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 4/10/8

Jackson crematory owner Mark Seepe is back in business today, but Byram resident Cindy Grantham cannot imagine who would ever use his services.

“I would hope that he is not going to have any business,” she said.

In court testimony Monday, former employees at Seepe’s Lorenz Boulevard crematory said Seepe commingled human remains in buckets and barrels from bones and ash that had fallen into a man-sized hole in the bottom of the cremation chamber. Grantham took her husband’s body to Seepe in November, shortly before his attorneys say Seepe shut his crematory down for repairs.

“Certainly, I would not have taken my husband there if I had known beforehand,” she said. “You don’t know how much of your loved one you came home with.”
