Mayor Frank Melton has resurrected a previously unsuccessful nomination for the Jackson Public Schools board as part of a new list of recommendations for city boards and committees.
On Wednesday, Melton requested that the City Council set confirmation hearings for Bill Brister and Curtina Moreland-Young. Brister would replace Jonathan Larkin, who has spent six years on the board, and Moreland-Young would replace H. Ann Jones, who’s been on the board 12 years.
Melton failed in December at getting the council to support his recommendation that Brister replace Larkin on the board.
He said Brister, a JPS parent and a finance professor at Milsaps College, and Moreland-Young, a retired Jackson State University Public Policy and Administration chairwoman, would do a better job of tackling truancy.
