Key legislative leaders and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant will meet this morning to determine how much money will be available to appropriate during the closing days of the current session.
The Legislative Budget Committee, which consists of Bryant, Speaker Billy McCoy and 12 other legislative leaders, will gather to discuss the state’s revenue collections.
There is speculation that the Budget Committee will reduce the revenue estimate for the coming fiscal year based on the national and state economies. If the estimate is reduced, less money will be available to appropriate.
“Hopefully, it won’t be lowered,” McCoy said, “We feel real comfortable with the revenue estimate on the House side.”
