Hinds County Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter said he will not challenge the state Supreme Court if he is suspended during a judicial bribery investigation.
The Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance petitioned the court on March 19, asking that DeLaughter be suspended until formal complaints of judicial misconduct are resolved. The court has not acted on the request.
“We would hope it would be handled very expeditiously,” the commission’s executive director, Brant Brantley, said Tuesday, after receiving a hand-delivered letter from DeLaughter.
“I believe with all my heart in the system, and therefore, place complete trust in the commission and the Supreme Court to give these matters dispassionate and considered fair judgment, guided by the rules and the law,” DeLaughter wrote. “Once that is done, I will quietly and humbly abide by their decisions.”
