Debate highlights candidates’ platforms

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 19, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 2/19/8

Although George Wynne Hall was only half full Monday night, there was no shortage of big ideas from six men seeking to replace retiring Rep. Chip Pickering.

Among the proposals?

How about abolishing the IRS, immediately deporting all illegal immigrants, ridding Capitol Hill of “sugar daddy” legislators, eliminating the No Child Left Behind Act, killing the income tax and expanding the area’s sewer system?

Facing a barrage of questions from a panel of local journalists and political scientists, Republicans Charlie Ross of Brandon, John Rounsaville of Madison, Bill Marcy of Meridian, Gregory Hatcher of Meridian and James Broadwater of Jackson, along with Democrat Joel Gill of Pickens unloaded their agendas for Capitol Hill.
