Scruggs’ lawyers want trial moved out of Miss.
Scruggs, who has made tens of millions of dollars from tobacco, asbestos and Hurricane Katrina insurance litigation, was a high-profile figure before he and several associates were charged in November with conspiring to bribe Circuit Judge Henry Lackey.
His role in a landmark settlement with tobacco companies was depicted in the 1999 film “The Insider,” starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe.
“While Scruggs’s advocacy on behalf of Mississippians has brought him accolades in some circles, it has also brought him a host of enemies,” Scruggs’ lawyers wrote.
