Report: Scruggs Plans to Plead Fifth in State Farm-Hood Spat

Scruggs and the Fifth: Meanwhile, Scruggs’s name has popped up in yet another case — this one a suit filed by State Farm against the Mississippi AG, Jim Hood (pictured, left), alleging that Hood used the threat of a criminal prosecution to extract civil settlements with the insurer. State Farm has alleged that Scruggs was part of the “extortion conspiracy,” and Scruggs was recently issued a subpoena requiring him to appear at a deposition on the matter, scheduled for tomorrow. However, according to a recent filing made by Scruggs’s lawyer, John Keker, Scruggs will plead the Fifth and decline to testify. Here’s the AP story.
