Hampton tries to carry water for Hood, but spills the bucket

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 29, 2008

“Sunshine” bill

Let’s be clear here. This is a direct partisan attack on Attorney General Jim Hood. It is Republican inspired and it is directed at the state’s top Democrat. He is vulnerable on the issue politically, admittedly much to his own doing. He set himself up with bad political decisions involving outside counsel and is reaping the result. In baseball terms, he threw them a high, hanging curve ball and they are hitting a home run on it.

Are there problems with how outside consel contracts are awarded? Yes. When one of the AG’s top political contributors wins a $14 million award, it looks really bad. When that attorney pleads guilty in a judicial scandal, it looks really, really bad.
