Barbour to address budget

Gov. Haley Barbour will give his annual State of the State address on Monday night on the floor of the Mississippi House of Representatives.

Barbour was sworn in for his second term in a ceremony in Jackson on Tuesday, and Monday night he will give an update on where the state stands, as well as what his priorities are for the coming year. The state will face serious challenges this year, as it tries to allocate millions more for education and also find money for hurricane recovery and deficits in Medicaid. This in a year which analysts expect will see a downturn in revenue and a nationwide economic recession.

Barbour has already asked the heads of state departments to present plans to trim their bud- gets.
