Sen. Flowers attends Governor Barbour’s Inauguration

Mississippi’s 63rd Governor, Haley Barbour, was officially sworn in Tuesday
for a second term on the steps of the state Capitol. Senator Merle Flowers
(R-Olive Branch) attended the inauguration.
“Governor Barbour is a dear friend. We are fortunate to have him as our
Governor. Watching Governor Barbour raise his right hand and take the oath
of office brought chill bumps to me,” said Flowers. “Mississippi is headed
in the right direction. Under Gov. Barbour’s leadership, we will continue
to recruit better and higher paying jobs, provide historic funding for
education, protect the public’s safety, strengthen families, and be good
stewards of the taxpayers’ money.”
Flowers, who sat near Gov. and First Lady Marsha Barbour at the
inauguration, said he believes history books will detail Barbour’s legacy as
record achieving. “Haley Barbour is one of the greatest Governors ever to
serve the citizens of Mississippi,” said Flowers. “Haley made all of us
proud to be a Mississippian in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina with his
courageous leadership under extremely difficult circumstances. He stood as
tall as an oak tree. Haley’s vision for a better Mississippi is inspiring.”
Flowers, who is a close ally of Gov. Barbour in the Senate, said a joint
assembly of the Senate and House will take place on Monday, January 21st,
where Barbour will deliver the State of the State address. “I look for Gov.
Barbour to talk about hope, optimism, and seizing opportunities,” said
Flowers. “As a fellow fiscal conservative, I also anticipate some remarks
about a balanced budget, and reducing wasteful government spending.”
