A Jackson police officer assigned to guard Mayor Frank Melton about three months ago is back patrolling city streets.
Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance confirmed Thursday the police chief reassigned Nathaniel Rushing about a week ago to Precinct 1. Vance said it was because the officer was needed in patrol.
“It’s a constant battle to keep the ranks built up in patrol to attack our overtime situation. It’s way out of whack,” Vance said.
Melton said he is “fine” having his original two bodyguards, Michael Recio and Marcus Wright, again.
