When the Mississippi Legislature convenes next month, Canton Alderman Kenny Wayne Jones plans to fill a seat he narrowly captured from Sen. Joseph Thomas of Yazoo City.
His new colleagues will determine whether he keeps it, though.
Senators are expected to follow a seldom-used procedure to decide if Thomas should be awarded the seat or at least a new election. Thomas, who rep resents portions of Attala, Holmes, Madison and Yazoo counties, filed a petition with that chamber after losing the Democratic primary to Jones by 131 votes.
