Judge: Certify Wooten As District 71 Winner
The Hinds County Election Commission scheduled a new election in those precincts for next Tuesday.
Wooten then asked the court to intervene, and on Tuesday morning, Judge Winston Kidd issued his ruling that the results should be certified, thus giving Wooten the victory. She received just over 200 votes more than Reeves in the November 6 general election.
The judge says the election commission did not have the authority to schedule a re-vote and that his ruling cancels it.
Reeves has said that if the judge ruled this way, he would appeal the decision to the state supreme court.
