The Hattiesburg American, 12/7/7
Mississippi lawmakers next month will have a golden opportunity to make some long-needed changes in this state’s judicial system.
A task force chaired by Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Mike Randolph of Hattiesburg this week unveiled recommended changes for the justice court system that would bring it more in line with 21st century needs.
The proposals include increasing education requirements for justice court judges, non-partisan elections for the judges, salary improvements and boosting jurisdictional limits.
These changes are important for the system that many consider “the people’s court” because it is the court that touches most Mississippians’ lives.
