We mark our calendars, they start their engines

LegalNewsline’s John O’Brien reports that if we should score an opportunity for reflection-in-tranquillity today, there we’ll differ from anyone involved in U.S. v. Scruggs, which trial is set for January 22, 2008.

Yep, the opening bid scheduling order (pdf) of U.S. District Judge Neal Biggers Jr., who drew this case, says (in Legal, of course): “Tell me who your lawyers are by December 10, discover everything you can about the evidence by December 27, and get all your pretrial fussing and favor-asking done by January 7. If you’re gonna throw in the towel and cop a plea, tell me that by January 7 too. If you’re gonna need to subpoena witnesses, tell me early enough to give the U.S. Marshals at least 10 business days before trial to serve ‘em.”
