Charlie Ross, an eleven-year veteran leader in the Mississippi Legislature, announced his candidacy for Mississippi’s Third Congressional District seat today.
“It is critical that our next congressman have a proven record of fighting for conservative values and accomplishing goals,” Ross said. “My record in the State Senate clearly shows I can do this.”
Ross has been widely recognized for his achievements in both the Mississippi House and Senate. He led efforts to balance the State’s budget and pass landmark legislation. His comprehensive tort reform package was hailed by the Wall Street Journal as a “model for the nation.” Ross also wrote common-sense measures like the Castle Doctrine, which protects the right of every Mississippian to defend their home and protect their family.
In 2007, Ross was recognized as the Legislator of the Year by the American Legislative Exchange Council, awarded the Legislative Achievement Award by the United States Chamber of Commerce, and presented the Charles Dick Medal of Merit by the National Guard Association of the United States.
Ross’ campaign will reflect the same conservative beliefs he has consistently supported in the Mississippi Legislature. “I will work to ensure that our nation maintains a strong military, defends our borders against illegal immigrants, protects the unborn, secures our individual Second Amendment rights and improves the environment for private businesses so they may flourish,” said Ross.
Ross is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He is a partner at the Jackson law firm of Wise, Carter, Child & Caraway, P.A. Ross, a Webster County native, lives in Brandon and is married to the former Sharon Ray. They have three sons, Andy, David, and Steven.
