The state Board of Health is expected to vote today on a new state health officer.
Starting at 9 a.m., the board is expected to meet in executive session to conduct interviews with three finalists, whose names the board chairman wouldn’t reveal.
“I anticipate that the board will make the selection for a permanent state health officer at the end of the meeting,” said board chairman Dr. Luke Lampton of Magnolia.
Dr. Ed Thompson – chairman of the department of preventive medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, who previously held the post – has been serving since July 2 as interim state health officer.
