A local law firm is recommending that the Jackson City Council hire another firm to represent Mayor Frank Melton in two cases because it believes the mayor acted outside his authority.
The admission, in a letter obtained by The Clarion-Ledger and addressed to the city’s legal staff, essentially indicates Phelps Dunbar would have a difficult time winning the cases. The firm, however, will defend Melton in two other cases against him.
Melton was sued by a Jackson woman for allegedly banging on her door with a shotgun and by a homeowner for his alleged involvement in damaging a duplex on Ridgeway Street.
