A refrigeration company sales representative faces federal charges for allegedly pocketing funds designated for equipment at the failed Mississippi Beef Processors plant in Oakland.
James Draper of Mount Juliet, Tenn., is the third person indicted in the failed beef plant venture, and State Auditor Phil Bryant said other people remain under investigation.
“Multiple individuals from throughout the U.S. continue to be persons of interest,” said Bryant, whose office is part of a joint state-federal task force investigating the plant. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chad Lamar, who will prosecute Draper, wouldn’t say whether more indictments are expected.
Draper is charged with devising a scheme to defraud the state of Mississippi and money laundering.
