With more than a month left before the start of the 2008 legislative session, potential candidates for the state Senate’s president pro tempore position include three lawmakers that serve in southern Mississippi.
Although Republican Lt. Gov.-elect Phil Bryant said he likely will back a member of the GOP for the job, he said he would wait a few more weeks before sharing his pick.
State Sens. Tommy Gollott, Billy Hewes and Tom King – all Republicans from the southern part of the state – already have expressed interest, Bryant said.
