Stokes: McMillin Shouldn’t Be Chief
Councilman Kenneth Stokes of Ward 3, who has traditionally voiced strong support for the mayor, does not agree with this latest decision.
“Hell no, hail to the now, hell naw!” the councilman said Sunday in reaction to the appointment of Sheriff McMillin to police chief.
He blames the sheriff’s handling of the Hinds County Detention Center at Raymond for Jackson’s rise in crime.
“We’re going to put the man who was over the jail that we’re releasing the criminals in our community back in the streets — we’re going to put him over the police department? We don’t think so,” said Stokes.
