Longtime Jackson-area lawmaker John Reeves is preparing a challenge to his defeat in the Hinds County District 71 race, asking for a new election in four precincts where he may have lost votes because of poll-worker errors.
Hinds County elections officials wrapped up counting absentee and affidavit ballots for the race around noon Wednesday, concluding Democratic challenger Adrienne Wooten had defeated the veteran Republican legislator. They will certify the numbers sometime early next week.
