Miss. candidates spend money with national political firms

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 13, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 11/13/7

Mississippi campaigns may be bad for voters’ nerves, but they’re good for consultants’ pocketbooks.

And nobody should be surprised that Gov. Haley Barbour, a former Republican National Committee chairman, spent large chunks of his campaign cash with advertising and polling firms that have a strong track record for the GOP – or that his challenger, John Arthur Eaves Jr., spent money with well connected Democratic firms.

According to Barbour’s campaign finance report filed a week before this year’s election, he spent more than $3.3 million with The Stevens & Schriefer Group, a political consulting and advertising firm based in Washington.
