Rankin County Justice Court Judge Richard Redfern has been appointed to preside over two unrelated criminal cases involving Hinds County Chancery Judge William Singletary.
In November, Singletary pleaded not guilty to a simple assault charge filed by Bob Merritt, a field tax assessor for Hinds County.
Merritt alleges Singletary held a machete “with his arm cocked back as if to stab” him while he was assessing the judge’s property, according to the court file.
