Sec. of state candidates full of ideas

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 29, 2007

The Sun Herald, 10/29/7

Both candidates for secretary of state say they are filled with ideas about how to make the office more efficient.

Republican Delbert Hosemann’s television commercials, featuring an elderly woman on a park bench poking fun at his name and talking about campaign issues, are a change from the negative attacks made by many of the candidates in the Nov. 6 general election. The voters seem to appreciate the positive campaign, he said. “We’ve been well received everywhere.”

Democrat Rob Smith has crisscrossed the state meeting the voters and, in a meeting with the Sun Herald, showed how he wore out his shoes in the journey. By listening to the people, he learned what issues are most important, and he plans to continue that process by asking the advice of the circuit clerks and election commissioners to find the best solution to election reform.
