Langston files legal action

Booneville attorney Joey Langston is asking a bankruptcy judge in New York state to rule on whether he and a group of lawyers must return the $14 million in fees they were awarded for winning $104 million in cash and $15 million in property for the state.

It has recently been revealed that state Auditor Phil Bryant has demanded that the attorneys provide the $14 million to the state. Bryant maintains that under Mississippi law it is up to the Legislature to decide whether to appropriate the funds to the group of attorneys.
