Debate: Barbour, Eaves still face questions

Eaves has been hitting the public school prayer issue on TV ads blanketing the state, but without addressing the issue of how in the world he can do anything about it. The U.S. Supreme Court has banned state-supported prayer as a constitutional issue, as Barbour pointed out. Eaves’ prayer pledge is pandering, to be sure.

But Eaves got in some jabs regarding Barbour’s “blind trust” that supposedly shields the governor from potential conflicts of interest. Barbour vetoed bills that would raise the state tobacco tax while his old Washington lobbying firm has Big Tobacco clients. That firm also has done Katrina-related business as well as some others close to Barbour.
