Jackson could face layoffs, salary reductions and hiring freezes, the City Council said Wednesday during discussions to balance the fiscal 2008 budget.
Residents, however, may not have to pay a nearly 15 percent water- and sewer-rate increase. Mayor Frank Melton pulled it from the proposed budget.
The council has until Saturday to approve it. Budget committee meetings have been ongoing since last week.
