The Jackson City Council begins budget hearings this week, seeking ways to bridge a $3.4 million revenue shortfall and set priorities for the 2008 budget.
The first meeting will start at 11 a.m. today at City Hall. By Sept. 15, the 2008 budget must be adopted. The 2007 budget must be balanced by Sept. 30.
Council members have accused the administration of not providing complete financial information. Recent efforts to persuade the council to approve the restructuring of long-term bond debt to secure money for this year and next year failed.
