The Clarion-Ledger State Gov’t Blog, 8/22/7
Democrat lite guv candidate Jamie Franks went grocery shopping in Tupelo today. He was illustrating the savings a 3.5 percent (rather than a 7 percent) grocery tax can bring. In the press release below, he included a potential breakfast menu for middle schoolers with the savings. I say this is an example of why Mississippi’s has an obesity problem. His menu includes eggs, milk, sausage, bread, orange juice AND cereal. How about cereal and a piece of fruit? Or maybe sub turkey bacon for the sausage? It’s all about portion control people.
And note to Franks’ camp: The tax on smokes is 18 cents per pack.
