Dear Friends,

Now that a little time has passed since the Lt. Governor primary election, Sharon and I want to tell each one of you how privileged we were to be able to run for Lt. Governor. We also want to thank each of you for your support. Traveling the state and meeting Mississippians from all walks of life is an experience that has made Sharon and me better individuals. We are extremely proud of the campaign. Even though we came out short in the vote count, we nevertheless feel like winners.

The campaign was about conservative values and principles. As I said in my concession speech on election night, even though the Lt. Governor Republican primary campaign is over, the fight for conservative values and principles is important and ongoing, and I will stay engaged in that fight going forward. I hope that each of you will do likewise.

The most important thing now is to ensure that conservatives are elected in November. On the Wednesday after the election, I endorsed my primary opponent, Phil Bryant. I am supporting the Republican statewide ticket from top to bottom. I urge each of you to support our Republican nominees. Now that the primary is over, we need to unite so Mississippi can elect conservative leadership to continue building on the successes we achieved the over past four years.

For the past several days, Sharon and I have been wrapping up the campaign and closing down the campaign office, while at the same time trying to get a little rest. So many of you have been so kind with your words of support. One of the special things about Mississippi is its people. The response during the campaign, and the kindness of so many people after election night, has only confirmed to us how special Mississippians are.

Last week, Congressman Chip Pickering announced that he will not be running for re-election in 2008. This announcement was a total surprise. Since then, many have called and urged me to consider running for the position. Because so many have called, and because I do believe in public service, Sharon and I are considering running for the seat vacated by Chip. Because of your faithful support during the Lt. Governor campaign, Sharon and I would very much like to have your thoughts as to whether we should run for the congressional position. Please let us know your feelings and thoughts.

Again, thank you for your support. I urge you to be involved in supporting conservative Republican candidates in the upcoming November election. If you have any thoughts about me running for the congressional position, your input would be very welcome.
