Gazing inside the cracked crystal ball, here’s how I see Aug. 7

With the 2007 Mississippi primary elections now less than a week away on Aug. 7, the focus shifts from the non-race for governor between incumbent Republican Gov. Haley Barbour and that great anti-moneychanger and erstwhile millionaire trial lawyer John Arthur Eaves Jr. to the contested down-ticket primary races:

In the Republican lieutenant governor’s primary, internal polls from both camps show State Auditor Phil Bryant with a lead over state Sen. Charlie Ross. But the race appears to be tightening as Ross pounds Bryant with a saturation of TV attack ads.
