Cold cases: Congress moving to right wrongs

Congress should move swiftly to create a “cold case” unit of the U.S. Justice Department to solve old civil rights cases.

The House passed a bill Wednesday to provide $10 million a year over the next decade for prosecutors and the FBI to focus on the old cases, as well as $2 million per year for state and local law enforcement agencies and $1.5 million to help coordinate investigations. Now, it’s up to the Senate.

Think how helpful that could have been in investigating the deaths of Charles Eddie Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee. The 19-year-olds disappeared from Franklin County on May 2, 1964, their bodies found later in the Mississippi River.
