A Meridian jury on Friday refused to award damages from Melton to two men who sued over a memo Melton leaked to the media in 2003 when he was head of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics about alleged misuse of government property and funds.
The court had already decided against Melton involving the internal MBN memo. Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Robert Bailey found Melton liable for leaking it to a Gannett News Service reporter after Melton had admitted that he had lied about it.
